Hull businesses back Lagoon’s new waterside living plans

Hull businesses – we need you!

Dozens of the city’s best known bars, cafés and independent shops have already thrown their support behind the Humber’s most transformative project but there’s still much more to be done.

Many have already added their names to the ever-growing wave of support for Lagoon Hull, filled with optimism for the future.

A key part of the spectacular plan to boost the city’s economy will be a new waterside living district -full to the brim with independent shops and cafés – turning Hull and the East Riding into a must-see destination and a sought-after place to live.

Roxanne Riley, co-founder and owner of Flour and Feast in Humber Street, is one of a number of local business people seeing the potential of the Lagoon Hull project.

The artisan bakery launched in 2018, trading from a unit in the city’s Trinity Market, before expanding into its current unit where it sits alongside a host of other popular independents including 19point4, Ophelia, and Form Studio & Shop, to name just a few.

And she sees that the current setup on Hull’s bustling waterfront could be just the beginning.

Support for Lagoon Hull is growing with businesses seeing the immense potential of a city living and working in harmony with the Humber Estuary.

“I did a little bit of research and it sounds amazing, incredible,” Roxanne said after seeing the radical plans to improve the city’s flood protection, transport infrastructure and placemaking agenda.
“It’s just such a fantastic idea, especially because there’s so many local businesses who need those people to come in. We are a great city and I think something like that in this area would be amazing.

“We’re doing well but I think we could do even better and the whole street and the whole area could. It would make a huge difference. The more people who come, the more we can do and the bigger we can be, and then that carries on and there’ll be other places that’ll open and it gives job opportunities to other people in the city so I think it’ll have a massive knock-on effect.”
